LIVE User Story Writing - January 4th to 5th

Class Description: This Live 9 hour course via zoom, introduces the basics of writing stories in place of "requirements", and discusses progressive elaboration of work. Further, specification introduces a syntax known as Gherkin, which is used for adding low-level details to high-level stories. Both of these concepts combine to replace or augment the traditional practices of requirement specifications and the creation of test plans.

  • Interpreting the backlog
  • Backlogs in the context of Agility, tasks, users, Definition of Done, and Value Stream
  • Types of backlog items
  • Story writing, splitting, and sizing
  • Story mapping and release planning
  • MVP and hypothesis testing perspective

Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to…

  • Understand what user stories really are and how to communicate this to your team - Establish a strong process and foundation for writing user stories
  • Know how much detail to include
  • Understand how to conduct a Story Mapping event and/or Release Planning session
  • Know how to size backlog items in different ways
  • Incorporate the ideas of MVP and experimentation when defining a release

Schedule:

  • Session 1: 4.5 hours including 30 minutes total break time
  • Session 2: 4.5 hours,including 30 minutes total break time and Q&A time
  • There will be exercises using MIRO.com as a guest, no licensing require, each student should be on their own computer
